A Good Day!
So, Sabbath was a very busy day but incredibly gratifying. We had our second family Sabbath, but realistically it's the first REAL family Sabbath. It was a wonderful collaboration between all the pastors and came off really well and fun. Devo probably had the most to do of all of us and then he added some stuff on top of it. But every ounce was worth it. Now, that is not to say that the service was perfect, because it wasn't. What it was, was a very good idea of what a family friendly service might look like in our congregation. It was really cool. We had a family choir instead of a praise team. We divided the service into four major sections instead of having the traditional elements. The sections were based in Psalm 100 and the congregation was alerted to the change in sections by a power point slide with that verse on it on the screen. We had lots of songs that the kids would know or could learn easily. A special reading for the child dedications (we had 3) and panel discussion for about 10 minutes. Each of the pastors briefly explained how they thought we could give our kids every possible advantage followed by a short homily. Then we had everyone in the whole building bring forward a card with something they're thankful for. They brought it forward as an offering and stuck on a tree. It was so cool to watch the kids come forward with their cards. They were so excited to participate in another way. It was COOL. It was a very good day in my opinion!
