The saga that is our Mercury Sable. So, here is the short story.
Car stolen: May 5 (off the street in front of our house)
Car found: May 30 (1 street up from the church, that's a whole mile from our house!)
Condition of recovered car: Exactly the same as when it was stolen. No damage.
Condition of contents: Some Sabbath School stuff still in the car, a Sabbath Bag, Bible, Emma's toys, carseats - all fine. Matt's flight bag, lunch bag, passport, various and sundry tech gadgets - gone.
Cost of being able to drive said recovered vehicle: $412 in impound/storage fees, $50 in gas, two street sweeper tickets, and a stomach of steel to handle the smoky smell and unsettling feeling that someone else has been doing who knows what in YOUR car.
Arrrgh! We are mostly grateful to have our car back but frustrated by the incovenience and time consumed with all the little details.

so glad to hear that the car is back with you!
I thought all thieves had some inner impulse to destroy what they couldn't use. Glad that your thieves were more 'civilized'. I must admit it's rather surreal to see you tootling around town in your car. I didn't think you would ever get it back. Did they leave the Tiny Tot's tree?
not good... but glad you have it back. that same thing happened to sam's teacher in May... found the car 1 mile from her home the next day.
hey, how'd Matt take the loss of the flight bag and other gadgets?
Did insurance cover the impound and sweeper tickets.
:)
